Back to the Bloody Roots
As an international VT was a very important part of our show, we chose a key place that would engage the audience to travel back to the roots of the myths that are ruling the internet world today. I went back to my Romanian roots and I become, for a few hours, a little frozen descendent of the Originals (Vampires!).
Because all the vampire tales are more likely to be told near the fireplace, the weather coped with me and kept the mystery of the place under a heavy snow. But the landscape was impressive. The Peleș Castle is situated, however, in the most elegant and beautiful mountain village in Romania, Sinaia, and this is why, possibly, Bram Stocker chose this place to write about. And as the tradition started to appear, it is said that there are a lot of haunted places and houses in this part of Europe.
Also, the Vampire Myth started from a bloody emperor named Vlad Dracul (Vlad The Devil) and it degenerated into a best-selling story. Back then, it is said that all the thieves in the country were afraid of this emperor, because he used an unconventional method of torture: he stabbed and hanged them into a long and very sharp arrow, until they bleed to death. And here is where the history meets fantasy. Because everyone said that the Devil Vlad drank their blood, because of his ‘insatiable thirst of human blood’.
Nowadays this story became very famous amongst the teenagers (thanks to the teen fiction and the fictional romance). Speaking about trends, one of the best series that I’ve read (about love between a human being and a vampire), with love, blood, magic, spells and mythological creatures is “The house of night” by P.C and Kristine Cast.
As for movies, I recommend “Van Helsing”
“The Vampire Academy”
“The queen of the Damned”
This East European myth went all the way to Asia and now the Vampire Anime is a new TREND in Japan
Then, he travelled to America and now there are some Disney movies about Vampires (“My babysitter is a vampire” or “Mom’s got a date with a vampire”).
